Largest gathering festival of Hinduism in the world.

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is scheduled to take place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26, 2025.
The Kumbh Mela holds profound importance in Hinduism. According to Hindu mythology, it commemorates the divine event of the gods and demons churning the ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality. During this process, a few drops of the nectar fell at four locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. These sites became sacred, and bathing in their holy rivers during the Kumbh Mela is believed to cleanse one’s sins and facilitate liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Pilgrims participate in ritualistic bathing at the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. This act is considered a purifying ritual that absolves sins and paves the way for spiritual liberation. The belief is that the auspicious alignment of celestial bodies during the Kumbh Mela enhances the spiritual benefits of these holy dips.
The festival features several significant bathing dates, known as ‘Shahi Snan’ (royal baths), which are considered highly auspicious:
January 13, 2025 (Paush Purnima): Marks the beginning of the festival with the first royal bath.
January 14, 2025 (Makar Sankranti): A grand royal bath takes place.
January 29, 2025 (Mauni Amavasya): Another significant royal bath.
February 3, 2025 (Basant Panchami): A royal bath is held.
February 12, 2025 (Magh Purnima): Royal bath occurs.
February 26, 2025 (Maha Shivaratri): Concludes the festival with the final royal bath.
